Holding Space for Ourselves and Others

“There is nothing more sacred than the act of holding space and bearing witness to the story of another. In that act, of being deeply attentive and intentional, we invite their soul to emerge and we develop a truer sense of what it means to be present, to be human, to belong. ~Lisa Keefauver

How can you allow for space in your week?

I had the chance to take a lovely gentle yoga class for stress relief yesterday. The teacher did a wonderful job of holding space for everyone in the class. It got me thinking about the importance of holding space for ourselves and others. I’m also reading a new book by Jenna Kutcher called, “How are You, Really?” This book is all about going beyond the typical “I’m fine” response to how you are and actually giving ourselves space to think about what and how we’re actually feeling. .

If in all of our interactions with others, they showed up with a mindset of presence and were able to hold space for us, imagine how good that would feel. We have the ability to walk through our week showing up for others and holding space for them, by truly being present.

Off the mat this week, I hope you take time to hold space for yourselves and others. On the mat, we’ll look at creating space in the body, mind, and breath.

Affirmations for the week:

I am releasing fear to make space for faith

I am releasing self-doubt to make space for self-worth

I am releasing anxiety to make space for calm

I am releasing worry to make space for gratitude

I am releasing regret to make space for new beginnings

(Feel free to add in your own words to fit what you’re working through this week)
