Be the Force of Good

Happy 4th of July to you!

How are you feeling today?

I sat down earlier to send my email to you all. I had pre-written an email for Independence Day all about how yoga helps us to be independent. It helps us to move more easily and to get up off the floor as we age. And while that is all still true, I decided it didn’t speak to me the same way today as it did when I wrote it earlier this week.

If you’ve been tuned into the news today, you’ve heard about the mass shooting at the parade in Highland Park, IL. It has been heavy on my heart this afternoon and left me feeling at a loss for words.

If you are feeling similar to me today, know I am here for you. If you need to vent or have someone listen, email me back. I am here. If you haven’t taken a deep breath today, you still can. If you need to cry, yell, or punch a pillow, let those feelings fly. However you’re feeling today, your feelings are valid.

I struggle to find the right words to send to you this week. And while I try without success to wrap my head around all of the tragedy and difficulty happening in the US right now, I remind myself that I can choose good. I can choose to share my love freely with those around me. And so, tonight I will hold space for each of you, my MK Namaste family, while I hug my loved ones a little tighter. If you can join me for class this week, we’ll focus on pooling our collective energy towards spreading the good. Many hugs and much strength to you for your week ahead.

Affirmation for the week: I am a force for good.
