Sit with it.

Sit with it. Sit with it. Sit with it. Sit with it. Even though you want to run. Even when it’s heavy and difficult. Even though you’re not quite sure of the way through. Healing happens by feeling. -Dr. Rebecca Ray

Is sitting with your emotions part of your practice?

I’ve never been very good at sitting still. I like to always be moving. These last few weeks I have been practicing the art of sitting still, of just sitting with my emotions. After my surgery, I’ve been having to sit more than I think I have in my entire life. These past few weeks have been filled with grief in a few different ways. I lost my aunt, my family lost a dear friend, and the day I thought I would be signing the lease I found out that the yoga studio space I was planning to rent was given to someone else.

My tendency when things like this happen is to keep pushing through and be on the move. My normal things I would do like yoga, walking, cooking, keeping busy with housework aren’t options for me right now as I’m still recovering. So instead, I marked some time off on my calendar to just sit with my emotions. To let myself really feel whatever arises. And man is it tough. The first few times I tried to just sit I found myself checking the clock, my Instagram, getting up to go to the bathroom. It’s a work in progress, a practice.

Is this something you do? I’d love to hear from you about if you take time to just sit and feel or if this is foreign to you like it is to me.

“When I get lonely these days, I think: So BE lonely, Liz. Learn your way around loneliness. Make a map of it. Sit with it, for once in your life. Welcome to the human experience.” -Elizabeth Gilbert

My challenge for you this week is to pencil in a few moments to just be. To sit. To let your mind wander. To let your feelings come and go.

I am hoping to be back teaching soon as I’m very much missing it. I will go back to the doctor this week and the hopefully have a better idea of when I’ll start my weekly classes again. I do have a fun pop-up event happening at the end of the month that I’d love to have you join me for! Info below :)
